Criminal Associate, Tucson, Arizona (1-4 Years Experience)
Sonja Cotton & Associates is currently recruiting for a full-time junior criminal law attorney to fill a criminal attorney opening for a very busy Tucson law office. We are confidentially looking for an attorney who is passionate about criminal defense, enjoys being in the courtroom, and excels at negotiation. Our client prides itself on being a highly rated criminal law firm with a client-friendly approach, ensuring their clients feel supported and prioritized during challenging times. This position offers significant opportunities for growth and requires someone ready to hit the ground running with an entrepreneurial mindset. We also welcome public defenders ready to join a private practice as well!
Key Responsibilities:
- Handle a diverse caseload of criminal matters, including felonies and misdemeanors such as DUI’s, robbery, domestic violence, assaults, and drug offenses, from intake through trial.
- Conduct client consultations, providing strategic legal advice.
- Collaborate closely with paralegals and support staff to ensure comprehensive case management.
- Gather discovery materials, draft pleadings and motions, and represent clients in pretrial hearings, motion hearings, and both bench and jury trials.
- Travel within Arizona to meet with clients as needed.
- Demonstrate strong multitasking abilities, analytical thinking, and exceptional negotiation skills, while showing empathy for clients during their crisis.
Requirements & Qualifications:
- Licensed to practice law in Arizona and in good standing.
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in criminal law (either prosecution or defense).
- Strong ability to analyze case law and develop strategic case approaches.
- A consummate professional who provides clients a positive and supportive experience.
